The Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr. Michael McDowell, today announced approval in funding totalling over €225,000 for 27 local groups under the Community-based CCTV programme.

Below is information from the Department of Justice and Equality Website about the Grant.

 

“The Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr. Michael McDowell, today announced approval in funding totalling over €225,000 for 27 local groups under the Community-based CCTV programme.

Making the announcement the Tánaiste said: “CCTV schemes are a strong deterrent in fighting crime and anti-social behaviour as well as giving communities greater peace of mind. Crime will not be defeated without the active involvement and support of local communities and I strongly believe that the Community-based CCTV programme is an excellent way to empower local people, working hand-in-hand with An Garda Síochána and local authorities to make their communities safer.”

A total of €125,136 in pre-development (stage 1) grants is now approved for a total of 26 groups located throughout the country (details below). These grants will assist the groups involved to develop and submit comprehensive, high quality proposals for development funding for the capital costs of installing CCTV schemes in their local area under stage 2 of the scheme.
